cmdr-fire@cmdr-fire.co.ukThe last postThis is to be the last post on this particular CMS.

My weblog has now been moved to http://www.cmdr-fire.co.uk/blog/. Please update your bookmarks, and see you on the new site!

This site is now going to be maintained purely as an archive.

BlarghSetting up three new websites, possibly four/starting university, hence lack of updates.
More to come by mid-week, I hope.

KatrinaI was just wondering if you guys in the UK are getting any of the coverage of the Hurricane Katrina?
Oh, and the levee's failed for New Orleans.... a Lake is emptying into the city.... the entire city is below 10-25 feet of water.
And cell phone coverage in the US is basically out of service for people in the South to use to call 911 and get rescued.

WordpressI've made the decision, Wordpress it is. I've built a site, updating images, fiddling around with various bits and pieces, and getting stuff done without too much trouble.

I was trying to migrate all of my quotes from the old PN database, and I’m looking to see how I can upload the quotes file into the MySQL database (basically changed suffixes from pn_ to wp_… pretty damn simple).
Didn’t quite work out how to do that, but I did succeed in accidentally dumping the files from the wp_posts database. Oops. Lucky it wasn’t something worse.
As it happens, I was able to successfully importe the quotes. Now we’re looking at importing posts from Postnuke (this shouldn’t be all that hard, given what I just learnt regarding the quotes, just taking a long time), implementing a gallery function with commenting (and hopefully a random image generated on the sidebar), and implenting some sort of “what I’m doing/listening to” thing on the sidebar (akin to the Status bar I had on my PN installation… only whereas that was static HTML, and a pain to update, this one ought to be dynamically generated).
It is a lot nicer to work with than PN, I will say that. Just takes a little getting used to.

Talk RadioTalk radio is the most dangerous thing there is. Well, apart from tigers and sharp mangos (mangoes?).

I've already been drawn in to commenting once, but after hearing some of the nonsense that ill-educated nonsense people spout ("Media Studies is where really skilled people go, maths and physics is just spouting out textbook stuff, I mean, 1+1=2, there's nothing new there and no analysis in that, there's no thinking in math and physics!" re A Levels) I've had to fight really hard to prevent myself from calling and setting the matter straight.
I guess that's what's the real lure behind Podcasting... it ain't all that bad. If only WMP would get it integrated...
I'm playing around with Wordpress, and am pretty impressed by how neat and clean the code is. Once I figure out how to throw in a few more functions (a gallery, a dynamically-updatable status bar, that sorta thing) and how to alter layouts and that, then that's probably the system I'll head for. Expression Engine appears to be more trouble than it's worth; I know someone who's bought a copy of it and is gonna install it, so I'll see what they've done before making any final decisions.

Various stuffsDebating abandoning this old, antiquated, and creaky Postnuke CMS in favour of something newer, spiffier, sleeker, smaller; Wordpress is the favourite at the moment, though I've heard good things about Expression Engine. This will probably occur in the next week or so.
Don't ask about the much-delayed (and reaching near-mythic status in various CFNS circles)"new server", codenamed See (after Aye and Bee). This will make many people's lives happy (including mine), but arrived DOA and attempts to resusitate (sp?) have failed.
In other news, we salute Nils Olav the Penguin, who has just been made Colonel-in-Chief of the Norweigan Army.

A historic day... of sorts...I think Al-Ayyam (site in Arabic) got it down best...
"The Israelis are pulling out of the lands of Historic Israel to the trenches of 'a Jewish state'... Both sides are defeated and victorious at the same time."

Edit:
From: Haim Ohyon, Israeli shopkeeper
Actually, I think you'll find that the British gave it to you, in 1947. (Wikipedia)

The "new" Dukes of HazzardI mean, the General Lee doesn't even have a Confedarate Flag on it any more. Where's the justice in that?

Speaking of cars, I've been trying to figure out the Renault Modus. As near as I can make out, it's meant to fill in a niche (that I was even aware existed) between the five-door Megane and the Scenic. By all accounts, it's selling, but I cannot at all fathom why. Such is the world, I guess.

Yay!Computer fixed!
Turned out to be a corrupted boot sector. Recovered all my data, performed reinstall on SATA, all very by-the-book. Gonna go to sleep now though 'cos I'm dead tired.
BF2 rocks.
